Residential Retreats for Individual Writers

For those wishing to spend a few days (or longer) here working on a writing project. You will be well looked after with healthy plant-based meals and home-made cakes (and no household chores to do).

You can book a stay of two nights or longer for just £100 per day/night (inclusive of meals).

You will have a comfortable bedroom with a king-size bed; pine furniture with ample storage space; a writing bureau next to the window with views of fields & fells; sole use of bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. You can choose to write indoors in your own room; the snug (which has book lined walls including many books on writing), living room; or the kitchen table. If you like writing outdoors you can choose from one of our open-air seating areas; our comfy 'outdoor snug'; or sitting in or outside the summerhouse by the pond and stream. You can enjoy country walks from the door, or a short drive or bus ride to the lakes.

Always happy to offer help with transport (collecting guests from Wigton Train Station, driving into town etc).

If two writers would like to attend the retreat together we have a second double bedroom, with a desk in front of the window (overlooking the garden pond). When two writers come together they will need to share the bathroom. For two writers the total cost will be £185 in total per day/night which could be split accordingly (perhaps with the writer using the fell view room paying slightly more).  Suggested rates might be £95 per day/night fell view room and £90 for the pond-view room (or however the two writers would like to divide it).

Please contact me if you're interested in coming on your own or splitting the cost with another writer so that we can agree  dates to suit.

"I went on the retreat to have some space and time to write. I didn’t feel I needed any structured content to the weekend or any prompts to get me going, although that was on offer if required. As a busy single parent, I just needed the opportunity to get writing, and that is just what I did!

My room made me feel like Emily Bronte, and by the window with the stunning views outside was the perfect place to sit and let my imagination flow. I had everything I need and felt totally looked after all weekend.

The food was out of this world! Ian is an amazing cook and everything he made tasted delicious – easily restaurant standard. The food was vegan, and even though I am not vegan, tasted unbelievable and I would never have known it was vegan.

I punctuated my writing with long walks in the countryside and slices of homemade cake with coffee. I had a super productive weekend, and to be honest, I didn’t really want to leave!"

‘Spent three days here in July at their Writing Retreat. Simply wonderful in every way. The warmth of Ros and Ian, the fabulous food, a gorgeous house with so many places to write or read, the peace - all delightful.’

Paul Underwood

‘Absolutely magical! Staying at this incredible writing retreat was one of the most inspiring and nourishing experiences I've ever had. The large cottage is set in the most breathtaking, peaceful location, perfect for sparking creativity and focus. From the moment I arrived, I felt completely looked after. The hosts are simply incredible: warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about creating the perfect environment for writers to thrive.

The cottage itself is spotless and cosy, with thoughtful touches like tea and coffee provided in every room, plus reliable WiFi if you need to do a bit of research or connect with the outside world. And the food… wow. Three delicious, home-cooked meals a day that felt like a hug on a plate, and every dish was made with such care and love.

I left feeling inspired, rejuvenated, and deeply grateful. Whether you're working on a novel, journaling, or just need a creative reset, this retreat is a true gem. I can’t wait to return!’

‘A peaceful, homely and welcoming location to focus on my writing project. Rosalyn and Ian are perfect hosts, and provided everything we needed for an enjoyable three day retreat, including very generous, home-cooked and delicious vegan meals.’
